Eight years of R&D and $125M from a16z/Paradigm to arrive at 36-72 second block times on Ignition — "mainstream-ready" is doing heavy lifting in that headline. The Labs/Network split mirrors the Offchain Labs playbook, but the actual unlock here is CHONK (client-side proving optimized for mobile/browser); if they can't get ZK proof generation fast enough on a phone, no amount of product polish matters. Also, framing the goal as "private as TradFi" is bizarre when TradFi runs on KYC/AML surveillance rails, SWIFT monitoring, and bank reporting — Aztec with functional ZK would blow past that bar entirely, so either they're sandbagging or telegraphing compliance hooks.
