Newport Beach launderer Evan Tangeman gets 70 months as ninth plea in $263M crypto social engineering RICO case

DOJ hit 22-year-old Newport Beach money launderer Evan Tangeman with 70 months for converting $3.5M of stolen crypto into cash, $40K-$80K/month LA mansions, and a fleet of luxury cars for the multi-state social engineering ring that drained $263M from victims. Tangeman, who operated under aliases "Evan|Exchanger" and "Tate," is the ninth defendant to plea in the RICO case after copping in December 2025; Judge Kollar-Kotelly added three years of supervised release. Twelve additional co-conspirators have already been charged in the broader scheme, so this won't be the last sentencing out of USAO DC.
