Canadian teen pleads guilty to laundering $13M crypto theft into Miami cars, jewelry and private jet trip

Trenton Johnston, now 20, pleaded guilty in Miami federal court to conspiracy to commit money laundering after court filings said he impersonated Google and crypto company reps to access victim accounts, including one California target with 185 BTC worth about $13M. Prosecutors say the stolen funds paid for club nights, jewelry, short-term rentals, a Lamborghini, two BMWs and at least one private jet trip, with Miami car dealer Brandon Tardibone also pleading guilty for helping wash the money. The plea avoids charges that could have carried up to 40 years; sentencing guidelines now point to roughly four to five years, and Johnston agreed to cooperate with deportation.
