x402 already shows 75.41M transactions and $24.24M volume over the last 30 days, so Cloudflare is not pitching micropayments into a vacuum. Putting that at a 330+ city edge makes AI crawler and API pricing enforceable before origin load, with examples as small as a $0.001 base fee plus $0.01 per MB. API keys start looking like legacy UX once proof-of-payment rides in the request itself; the credential is HTTP 402.
