The piece situates PropAMMs as a new onchain market‑making primitive that seeks to close the gap between decentralized exchanges (DEXs) and traditional finance (TradFi) or centralized exchanges (CEXs) by enabling active, low‑latency pricing within a smart contract framework. According to Blocmates, PropAMMs are smart‑contract based market‑making systems that sit behind DEX aggregators (rather than being directly user‑facing), where professional trading firms encode proprietary strategies and stream real‑time prices onchain. They rely on off‑chain models and predictive or oracle‑based price feeds to update quotes cheaply and frequently, allowing tighter spreads, lower slippage, and more capital‑efficient liquidity than constant‑product or concentrated‑liquidity AMMs, especially for highly liquid spot pairs. Studies cited in the article, including work from Jump Crypto, suggest that in large transaction samples a high percentage of trades routed through PropAMMs were executed at better prices than even VIP‑tier CEX users, underscoring their potential to make onchain execution genuinely competitive with centralized venues. Blocmates also highlights the risks and design tradeoffs of this model. Because strategies are proprietary and often closed‑source, PropAMMs can be significantly more opaque than traditional AMMs, making it harder for retail users to understand how prices are formed or when they are at a disadvantage. Research referenced in the article, including a study by 0x, points to substantial instances where retail traders were adversely impacted behind these opaque mechanisms. Additional concerns include permissioned integration with aggregators, reliance on specific validators or leaders for transaction inclusion, and centralization of control in a small set of market‑making firms, which can introduce new vectors for exploitation, censorship, or unfair orderflow capture. As DeFi experiments with PropAMMs to narrow the performance gap with TradFi markets, Blocmates frames the debate around how the ecosystem balances efficiency and user experience against transparency, openness, and trust minimization.44:T983,Blocmates has published an explainer on proprietary automated market makers (PropAMMs), examining how they work, why they have grown rapidly on chains like Solana, and the key tradeoffs between performance, transparency, and risk for DeFi users and protocols. This effectively expands what Uniswap v4 hooks can do beyond the data natively available onchain, while still providing verifiability guarantees. According to Space and Time’s announcement on X, the integration allows Uniswap v4 hook contracts to call Space and Time’s Proof of SQL product, which returns query results along with a zero‑knowledge proof that the data and computation are correct. This lets AMMs and other DeFi logic in Uniswap v4 use time‑series metrics, historical liquidity and volume, cross‑chain data, and other complex analytics as inputs for things like dynamic fees, risk controls, or custom pricing curves, while preserving a cryptographic trust model rather than relying on opaque off‑chain services. The move builds on Uniswap v4’s design, where hooks are external contracts that can modify pool behavior at key lifecycle points such as before/after swaps or liquidity changes. The integration matters because it illustrates how Uniswap v4’s hook architecture can turn a DEX into a more general programmable execution environment for onchain strategies. By combining hooks with verifiable off‑chain SQL queries, developers can design AMMs and liquidity strategies that react to sophisticated state—like multi‑pool or multi‑chain conditions, historical volatility, or protocol‑level KPIs—without embedding all that data directly onchain, which would be expensive or infeasible. This points toward a new class of data‑driven DeFi primitives where the boundary between onchain logic and off‑chain analytics is mediated by cryptographic proofs rather than trust in a centralized oracle or service.46:T777,Space and Time, a decentralized data warehouse, announced an integration that lets Uniswap v4 hooks query its cryptographically verified SQL data, enabling AMM logic to incorporate rich historical onchain data and other analytics directly at execution time. YieldBasis was designed by Curve Finance founder Michael Egorov to turn a standard BTC–stablecoin constant‑product AMM (e.g., BTC/crvUSD on Curve) into what is effectively a single‑asset, BTC‑only carry trade rather than a two‑asset LP position. When a user deposits BTC, the protocol flash‑borrows an equal USD value of crvUSD, adds both BTC and crvUSD to a Curve pool to mint LP tokens, and then uses those LP tokens as collateral to borrow crvUSD and repay the flash loan, ending with roughly 50% equity / 50% debt → 2× leverage on the BTC side. The LP tokens sit inside a dedicated “LEV‑AMM” that is mathematically engineered so each market maintains a constant 2× compounding leverage ratio, where the AMM invariant is tied to an external oracle price and continuously rebalanced to keep leverage fixed. As Mirador highlights, that constant‑leverage design changes the shape of LP exposure: instead of the usual square‑root price curve of a constant‑product AMM, YieldBasis keeps the position so that it tracks BTC’s price approximately 1:1, making P&L linear in BTC’s price movement while still collecting Curve trading fees. The protocol achieves this by using a rebalancing AMM plus a “virtual pool” that exposes small price discrepancies and incentivizes arbitrageurs to buy or sell against YieldBasis whenever leverage drifts from 2×; these arbitrage trades mint or burn LP and adjust debt so that net BTC exposure remains fully directional. In effect, YieldBasis attempts to make impermanent loss “zero” in the sense that LPs no longer suffer the usual underperformance versus simply holding BTC; instead, they bear leveraged BTC price risk plus funding and rebalance costs, turning AMM LPing into a more traditional basis‑style carry trade.48:T819,Mirador’s post explains how YieldBasis, a protocol built on Curve, structures a special leveraged AMM so that LPs get effectively linear price exposure to BTC while avoiding traditional AMM impermanent loss, by locking positions into a constantly‑maintained 2× leverage. The collaboration is aimed at listed companies and major enterprises in Japan, giving them a compliant way to earn roughly 4–12% annual yield on BTC through Solv’s lending, AMM liquidity provision, and structured staking products without selling their Bitcoin. At the core of the initiative is Solv’s SolvBTC standard, a Bitcoin-backed wrapper that allows firms to deposit BTC and receive a tokenized representation they can use across DeFi protocols while retaining 1:1 backing of their holdings. Yield is generated by allocating these assets into strategies such as overcollateralized lending markets, liquidity provision on decentralized exchanges and automated market makers, delta‑neutral derivatives strategies capturing funding rates, and staking in emerging Bitcoin Layer-2 ecosystems like Babylon. Animoca Brands Japan leverages its existing digital asset treasury management services and corporate network in Japan to onboard enterprises, position the product within local regulatory constraints, and help convert previously idle Bitcoin treasuries—such as those held by major Bitcoin‑treasury firms like Metaplanet—into income‑producing assets. The partnership reflects growing demand among Japanese corporates for more sophisticated and regulated crypto treasury strategies, moving beyond simple buy‑and‑hold exposure. It also illustrates a broader shift in Bitcoin’s institutional role: from mainly a volatile reserve asset to productive collateral in BTC‑native DeFi (“BTCFi”), potentially influencing how listed companies globally think about managing and monetizing large Bitcoin positions.4a:T757,Animoca Brands Japan has signed a strategic partnership and memorandum of understanding with Bitcoin-focused DeFi platform Solv Protocol to create a yield‑generation infrastructure for Japanese corporations holding large Bitcoin treasuries.
