An attacker exploited a vulnerability in Hyperbridge's gateway to forge cross-chain messages and seize admin control of a Polkadot token contract on Ethereum, minting 1 billion DOT and dumping them for roughly $237K. Thin liquidity on the Ethereum-side DOT market kept the damage relatively contained. CertiK flagged the exploit, and South Korean exchanges Upbit and Bithumb have suspended DOT deposits and withdrawals as a precaution.
