OpenAI has launched ChatGPT Atlas, a standalone web browser with ChatGPT built in, now available globally on macOS and announced via the company’s official X account and livestream on 21 October 2025. Atlas integrates conversational AI directly into the browsing experience so users can interact with any web page, search, and perform tasks in a chat pane alongside the sites they are viewing, rather than switching tabs or copying and pasting content. It is available to Free, Plus, Pro and Go users on macOS, with a beta for Business users, and OpenAI plans support for Windows, iOS and Android. The browser’s core features include: “chat anywhere” on the web, so ChatGPT can summarize, explain, or transform the page currently open; browser memory, which—if enabled—lets ChatGPT remember key details from the user’s browsing to provide more personalized help, resurface previously visited pages, and suggest next steps; and an agent mode that allows ChatGPT to take actions in the browser, such as clicking, filling forms, booking reservations or editing documents, using a visible on-screen cursor while staying constrained to the user’s tabs. Search within Atlas is presented through a chat interface with additional tabs for links, images, videos and news, positioning the browser as both a traditional web client and an AI-native interface to the open web. These capabilities signal OpenAI’s move from a standalone chatbot product toward a full browsing environment that competes more directly with established browsers and AI-infused search experiences.
