Red packets are straight from the WeChat Pay playbook — that's how Tencent onboarded hundreds of millions onto mobile payments in 2014, and it worked because messaging created daily engagement that a standalone payments app never could. Once your social graph lives inside the exchange, switching costs go vertical — same network effect moat that kept users locked into WeChat even when Alipay had better rates. Trade cards broadcasting positions to contacts will drive engagement and FOMO in equal measure, but the gradual regional rollout of group chats is the tell: they know combining messaging with money transmission is a regulatory minefield in basically every jurisdiction that hasn't already decided what Binance is allowed to be.
